2023 Historics at Road America

The WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman “Historics” held at Road America on July 14-16 and it was really wonderful.  You see all the “Vintage” cars which to some of us were the cars we watched run just a couple of years ago.  (We really are getting old!)  It is fun to see them out on the track again.  Walking through the paddock going “oh yea I remember that one” is very common.

BMW NA was there this year (first ever) with the M8 race car (I know not vintage), but there is room for all cars.  In fact they had a back up car, the M6 just in case.  They didn’t have to use it.  BUT the big surprise was the FINA F1 GTR – even if it was for display only.  It was started up and it sounds GREAT!   WeatherTech purchased one of the M8 race cars and it was there too so BMW NA was there to support them.  What a treat.

You will see in the pictures the BMWs that were racing.  Vintage or not it is always fun to see them on the track.

Friday night the race cars come into Elkhart Lake for a car show.  They arrive around 6:00 with a police escort and have to leave by 8:00 (no headlights) to get back to the track.  This was the biggest crowd I have seen in the many many years of attending.  Then on Saturday night Elkhart Lake has a BIG car show.  Both night were very crowded and lots of music, food and drink.  It is something to experience!
